Welcome back returning JETs!
On October 19th, JETAA Toronto hosted our annual Re-Entry Conference to welcome back and help re-integrate newly returned JET participants into Canadian life. There were a series of informational and advisory sessions facilitated by sempai JETAA members. Topics included: Dealing with Reverse Culture Shock, Finances and Taxes, Furthering your Education, LinkedIn and Interview skills, as well as tactics for finding volunteer and employment opportunities.
JETAA Co-Chairs Matt Kaiser and Alena Seibold welcomed the newly returned JET participants and gave a presentation on JETAA Toronto and the different events that are organized throughout the year.
JETAA Toronto is very lucky to be able to tap into the expertise and knowledge of it’s sempai JETAA members. The keynote speaker Mr. Garin Aronian delivered an excellent presentation on the importance of seizing every opportunity available and how his life experiences shaped his career trajectory. In addition, Matt led a very detailed and informative talk on key interview skills with many practical tips and guidance on branding yourself in the digital age.
Following the conference, JETAA members and 2019 JET returnees walked over to Ichiriki Japanese Restaurant to have a chance to unwind and reflect on their shared JET experience and socialize over dinner.
A big thank you to all the JETAA Toronto volunteers, speakers and guests for offering the space for us to host the conference. We wish the new JET returnees all the success in their upcoming endeavours!
