What a treat it was to get to work with Helen and Sorlie of Secret Tea Time. The two are former JETs themselves and are always fond of taking groups of JETAA through the process of making ceramics. Before we get too deep in the details, we want to make sure it is clear that they offer a special discount to JET Programme Alumni, so if you are ever thinking about hosting a ceramics event yourself, be certain to reach out to them at Secret Tea Time!
Helen and Sorlie led the first group of us through making ceramic slabs. Using different types of clay, we cut, beat, flattened and shaped our plates before eventually stamping and inlaying them with different stencil prints. Our sensei walked a second group through the same process but for bowls and cups shortly after the first group wrapped up.
The three hour workshops literally flew by we were so engaged in the process! As we worked, we shared some delicious tea in beautiful cups that the Secret Tea Time crew had made. If you are feeling a bit bummed out you were unable to attend or think that it might be a fun way to spend an afternoon or evening, be sure to reach out to Helen and Sorlie and see what kind of workshop they can help you put together.
As Christmas and New Year’s approaches the year is winding down, but things aren’t slowing down for us here with JETAA. Be sure to keep an eye on our event’s pages as key events like our Career Roundtable and AGM are on the horizon!
