Call for 11 Applicants to Represent Canada in Once-in-a- Lifetime
Opportunity to Tour Japan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and India as Part of
Japan’s Ship For World Youth Program
The Canadian Ship for World Youth Alumni Association is pleased to announce that Canada has once again been selected to participate in the Ship for World Youth (SWY) program (http://www.swycanada.org). The official invitation for Canada’s participation was sent by the Embassy of Japan in Ottawa to the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
In its 24th year, SWY is a unique international cultural exchange program organised by the Government of Japan, with some elements provided in cooperation with the United Nations University. The most prestigious program of its kind, SWY brings together over 250 youth from around the world to engage in activities supporting international cooperation and understanding.
Through the generosity of the Government of Japan, 10 Canadian youth as well as their National Leader will join young leaders from every continent of the world to participate in this unique cross-cultural exchange program. Applications are currently being accepted for young Canadians interested in representing Canada in this international youth assembly.
From January 18th to March 5th 2012, 140 Japanese and 132 international youth from 12 other nations will live together on the Japanese flagship, the Fuji Maru, as it travels from Japan to Singapore, Sri Lanka, and India. On board, delegates will attend seminars and lectures given by professors from around the world and will discuss new avenues to overcome the various challenges facing humanity today.
The Canadian Ship for World Youth Alumni Association is organising the recruitment of the Canadian delegation.
To be eligible, Participating Youth must be between the ages of 18 and 30. Candidates interested in the position of National Leader must be under the age of 39.
Deadlines are as follows:
1) August 18th 2011 for National Leader (1 delegate)
2) August 26th 2011 for Participating Youth (10 delegates)
Please note that English is the working language on the ship and that most program costs (travel, food, and lodging) are covered by the Government of Japan (medical insurance is not covered).
