1,000 hope letters from around the world made available to classrooms and evacuation centres across Japan

Ottawa, Canada — April 11, 2011 — Hope Letters announces the online publication of 1,000 letters in both English and Japanese submitted by schools and people from around the world to convey hope and support to students across Japan.  The letters are published today to mark one month since the tragic events of March 11, 2011 and the start of a new school term across Japan.  Notice of publication have been sent to 4,000 English teachers in Japan, Japanese teacher networks, cultural centres, Japanese media, international media and Japanese volunteer centres coordinating relief distribution to evacuation centres.

JETAA Ottawa Japan Fundraising Event

Dear Friends of Japan,

On March 11, 2011, a powerful 9.0 magnitude earthquake struck off the east coast of Honshu, Japan, followed by a powerful tsunami. Hundreds of thousands have been displaced from their homes and the death toll in Miyagi prefecture alone is predicted to reach more than 10,000. During this difficult time, all of our friends and families in Japan are in our thoughts.

AJET International Statement on Earthquake

On March 11, 2011 a large earthquake of a magnitude of 8.8 hit northern Japan, causing huge fires, landslides, radiation leaks, and widespread infrastructure damage as well as generating tsunamis in several regions. A broad area has been affected by these disasters, and problems vary from region to region. For up-to-date information, check news sources that are local to the region in which your family member or friend resides.
