The Japan External Trade Organization is currently looking to fill the position of Business Development Officer at its Toronto office. The successful candidate will report directly to the Director of Research. The position is largely focused on research efforts, contributing to the various research activities of the JETRO Toronto office, while also requiring active participation in the office’s investment promotion and strategic alliance activities.
Responsibilities:
[Research Activities]
- Support Research Director efficiently in research activities via topical suggestion, collection, summary and analysis of data, quote acquisition from opinion leaders, etc.
- Maintain high level, up-to-date knowledge of the economic and political environment in Canada ensuring Research Director is kept up-to-speed on current events.
- Compose detailed reports focusing on various Canadian industrial sectors.
[Investment Promotion Activities]
- Actively search for new potential investment clients, maintaining and updating investment client directory.
- Presentation composition and delivery to industry executives highlighting JETRO’s services as well as business opportunities in Japan.
- Collaborate with government and industry bodies to organize and implement mutually beneficial programs and events supporting Canadian private industry expansion to Japan.
- Respond to inquiries from Canadian and Japanese companies efficiently and professionally.
Qualifications:
- Experience in composing detailed market research and market entry strategy reports.
- Advanced understanding and capability in quantitative and qualitative research.
- Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills.
- Proactive, enthusiastic self-starter with advanced consultation and problem solving skills.
- Outgoing individual with excellent networking abilities.
- Knowledge of international business expansion trends and strategies of Canadian industry.
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs.
Preferred:
- Strong understanding of Canadian monetary and fiscal policy, bilateral and multilateral trade initiatives and other government activity.
- Advanced understanding of macroeconomics, with the ability to research and analyze economic data.
- Knowledge of and experience in economic development and investment promotion strategies and practices.
- Understanding of areas of strength in the Canadian ICT and Environmental Technology Sectors.
Requirements:
- Ability to work in Canada (No visa provided).
- Native English speaker.
- University degree; background in Business and/or Economics preferred.
- Japanese ability is not obligatory but considered a bonus.
- G-Class Ontario Driver’s licence.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
