Event Review: Returners’ Pub Night and Scavenger Hunt

JETAA Welcome Back! Returners Pub Night / Nuit Blanche 2014 Review by Nam Chuong

Saturday, October 4th marked our JETAA Welcome Back! Returners Pub Night / Nuit Blanche 2014 event.
Every year it’s really interesting to see the different groups of genki JETs who come out each time. This year a large group of returning JETs, JETAA members, and other friends came out to the Duke of York for food, drinks, and of course, reminiscing about Japan. It was great to see the new returners eager to share their experiences and the long time returners have the feeling of ‘natsukashii’ as they listened on. It was also interesting to see some familiar faces among the returning JETs as a few of them had attended our JETAA Toronto Orientation the previous year and remembered our genki JETAA Toronto executive members! 🙂
Having a good time!

Axe-throwing Recap Bonanza

axe1

I never knew quite how badly I wanted to throw an axe until I held one in my hands. I mean, I suppose I’d had an inkling. (I think anyone who has ever been anything remotely into fantasy has imagined swinging swords and throwing a whole range of sharp pointed objects). But it wasn’t until this September’s JETAA Axe-Throw-Houdai over at the Backyard Axe Throwing League that my chance was finally realized. All within a safe learning environment and with competent instructors! Technically, they were instructor-referees, and were AWESOME. Thank you Cookie and Millsy! They made the entire night a lot of fun and provided lots of laughs, even if even they couldn’t quite save my game. It turns out axe throwing requires a lot of core strength in the torso. (more…)

Farewell 2014 JETs

Farewell Reception - photo 1

I was exactly where you are now four years ago. Some of you spent the summer traveling around Europe or completing that summer job. Many of you made it out to other pre-departure activities held throughout the summer. This is how we met.

Each step during this summer’s activities, I found myself revisiting my own summer pre-departure activities four years ago – PDOT Orientation to the Farewell Reception.
